United States President Joe Biden could not help but laugh when asked about the possibility of former President Donald Trump being pardoned by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis if DeSantis is elected President in 2024.

According to Business Insider, a reporter asked President Biden a question about the recent remarks of the presidential aspirant, DeSantis.

A reporter asked Biden at a news conference, "Did you see that Ron DeSantis said that if he became president he would pardon Trump?" The press further questioned the current POTUS, asking, "Where are you on the idea of presidents pardoning Trump?"

In response to these questions, Biden flashed a smile. He also could not contain himself and chuckled at it. Upon doing so, he waved his hand dismissively and walked away without answering the query.

The Independent UK notes that granting former President Trump a pardon primarily absolves the MAGA leader of any crimes, which he might have done while he sat at the White House and after his term.

The New York grand jury has already indicted Trump as he faced over 30 counts of falsifying business records. However, the Independent UK clarifies that US presidents are not entitled to grant pardons over state or locally prosecuted crimes.

SUNRISE, FLORIDA - NOVEMBER 26: U.S. President Donald Trump introduces Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during a homecoming campaign rally at the BB&T Center on November 26, 2019 in Sunrise, Florida. President Trump continues to campaign for re-election in the 2020 presidential race.

As per The Hill, the Florida Gov., who launched his presidential run in a glitchy Twitter live last week, says he will consider pardoning all January 6 defendants, which includes Trump, as his first order of business when elected.

It is worth noting that the former President is facing multiple investigations, including one by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

In an interview in a podcast entitled "The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show," DeSantis raised the idea of pardoning the former POTUS. He says, "On day one, I will have folks that will get together and look at all these cases, who people are victims of weaponization or political targeting, and we will be aggressive in issuing pardons."

Biden's laughter at the prospect of a Trump pardon if DeSantis wins is likely to be seen as a sign that he does not believe it is a serious possibility.

Meanwhile, the possibility of a Trump pardon is one of the many issues that could divide the country in the 2024 election. If the MAGA leader receives pardon, it would be a significant victory for his supporters. But on the other hand, it would be a significant setback for his critics. But before that, only time will tell whether DeSantis will be elected President in 2024.
