Warner Bros. has finally announced the release date for the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 horror-comedy classic, "Beetlejuice 2."

According to the studio, the Beetlejuice sequel is set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, with Michael Keaton returning as Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder reprising her role as Lydia Deetz as per Comic Book Movie.

Beetlejuice cast update stated that, alongside the two original Beetlejuice cast members, Jenna Ortega from "Wednesday" has been cast as Ryder's character's daughter, while Justin Theroux's role remains undisclosed.

Production for the sequel will begin in London this week, with the script written by "Wednesday" creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Despite being a follow-up to the original, the sequel will not be the undeveloped "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian" that Burton tried to make in the early 1990s, and the original cast, including Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, will not return, according to WPTV.

Beetlejuice Returns To The Big Screen After Leaving Broadway

Released in the United States in March of 1988, the first Beetlejuice movie tells the tale of a recently departed couple who employ Beetlejuice, a naughty ghost from the afterlife, to assist them in handling the new family that has moved into their house, according to Variety.

Beetlejuice was a critical and commercial success, grossing $74.7 million and even inspiring a Tony-nominated stage adaptation. After a four-year run, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the show finally closed on Broadway in January.

While many fans will undoubtedly be thrilled at the thought of a reunion of the original cast and the Beetlejuice cast update for the latest installment of the horror-comedy masterpiece, others believe that too much time has passed and the beloved character should be left to rest in peace.
