Authorities discovered the remains of Beau Mann, the founder of a digital health company, in a courtyard area near an abandoned building in Santa Monica, California, nearly a year and a half after he vanished from an Uber in November 2021.

Sober Grid Founder Discovered Dead

Mann founded Sober Grid in 2015 as a means for those battling addiction to stay in communication and monitor one another. Users have the option of remaining anonymous or using their actual identities.

According to a statement from Sober Grid, Mann stopped at a 7/Eleven near his office around 2:00 p.m. before boarding an Uber. The company said Sober Grid has "saved thousands of lives" and will continue to "save thousands more."

Authorities from Santa Monica stated in a press release that the Los Angeles County Coroner is still investigating the cause of Mann's demise, as per Fox LA. On an abandoned property near Los Angeles, the remains of a tech Executive whose family had been desperately searching for him for over a year and a half were discovered.

Santa Monica police released a few details about where Beau Mann was discovered and how he is believed to have perished. In a Monday Facebook post, they only stated that they received a complaint about human remains being discovered in the atrium of an abandoned property.

Mann's remains have been turned over to the county coroner, who will determine the cause of death. Mann was last seen on November 30, 2021, at 2:06 p.m., outside a Studio City convenience store, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Less than ten minutes later, at 2:15 p.m., Mann texted 911, according to USA Today. Last year, Jason Abate, the fiancé of Mann, stated on NBC's 'Dateline' that Mann founded the company in 2016 to create a safety network and online resource for those afflicted with addiction.

Tech CEO's Family Thanked Everyone Who Helped to Locate Him

Since his fiance's disappearance, Abate has been working to locate him, creating a Help Find Beau Mann Facebook group and devoting a popular TikTok account to spreading the word about Mann's case.

Abate previously disclosed to 'Dateline' that he and Mann were in a long-distance relationship and were scheduled to marry in June 2022. He reported speaking with his fiancee the day before he disappeared. On the Facebook page dedicated to Mann's search, his godmother, Sandy Eggers, wrote that his smile will "always enlighten us."

In a statement sent to USA TODAY, Mann's family expressed gratitude to everyone who helped in his search over the past year and a half.

Per NY Daily News, the location of Mann's remains is less than one mile from where Uber dropped him off on November 2021. Shortly after exiting the convenience store, he texted 911. Officer Jill Calhoun verified that the LAPD received Beau Mann's message during an episode of Dateline in 2022, adding that "multiple attempts were made to contact [him] via that correspondence."

Friends and family became concerned when they could not contact Mann, and they reported him missing on December 4, 2021, a few days later. On May 6, the Los Angeles County Coroner determined that the deceased was Mann. His dental records were used to identify him, but no cause of death was given.
