California authorities released further information on the firearms used during the Monterey Park shooting, when a gunman opened fire on a dance studio gathering celebrating Lunar New Year Saturday night, killing 12 and wounding numerous others.

Sheriff Robert Luna of Los Angeles County said in a news conference on Wednesday night that a Cobray Company semi-automatic 9mm MAC-10 and a Norinco 7.62 x 25mm handgun were among the weapons seized near the Star Dance Ballroom Studio in Monterey Park, California, as reported by Fox News.

The suspect opened fire on a Chinese New Year party at a ballroom dance club late Saturday night in the Los Angeles area, before leaving the scene and eventually shooting and killing himself the following day.

Modified Gun Used in Lunar New Year shooting

The California Mass Shooting suspect, identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, is said to have stood at the entrance and shot 42 bullets with a MAC-10 rifle, killing 11 people.

The trigger had been altered, however, it is unclear if this made the weapon fully automatic. The ATF is now evaluating it, Luna added.

Luna said Tran shot himself Sunday morning in Torrance, 20 miles (34 km) from the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, per the Inquirer.

As a result of the Lunar New Year shooting, police forces throughout the country, from San Francisco to New York, increased their presence during local Lunar New Year events, as per a WESH 2 report.

Over 60,000 people are living in Monterey Park, California, which is located on the eastern fringe of Los Angeles. Almost 70% of the city's population is Asian, with the majority being of Chinese ancestry.
