The White House has publicly condemned Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's remarks regarding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot.

The White House has condemned GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene over her remarks regarding the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection where she said that she would have won the attack, noting that the mob of Trump supporters would have been armed if she led the march.

Over the weekend, the Georgia Republican spoke at an event by the New York Young Republican Club. Greene argued that there were accusations that she and Steve Bannon organized the unprecedented attack on the Capitol building.

The Republican later said in a statement on Monday that she was being sarcastic when she made those remarks, similar to how she has been before and denied any involvement in the Capitol Hill riot.

Greene said that her comments were made in an attempt to make fun of United States President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. She claims that the left has continuously made her a political target since the Jan. 6, 2021, incident.

The Georgia lawmaker, whose public image has been built largely on her willingness to make inflammatory statements and embrace fringe conspiracy theories, previously tried to justify the Capitol Hill riot. Furthermore, she tried to downplay the deadly incident as simply a normal riot, as per CNN.

But there have been many rioters who were present during the Jan. 6 incident who carried weapons, including bats and poles, while others carried guns, including one individual who had two loaded handguns and was later sentenced to serve five years in prison.

While Greene has tried to publicly downplay the insurrection, leaked text messages from her to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows showed her pleading for former United States President Donald Trump to urge his supporters to stop the violence at the Capitol.

According to USA Today, in a statement, White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates said that the Republican's comments were a "slap in the face" to law enforcement who worked to protect the Capitol and the families whose loved ones died amid the violence.

Capitol Hill Riot

Bates said that the situation where a member of Congress wished that the Jan. 6 incident had been worse went against the nation's fundamental values as a country. He added that all leaders have a responsibility to condemn such "dangerous, abhorrent remarks" and stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law.

Following the insurrection, five police officers who were working at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, died and 140 others were injured. Furthermore, the riot resulted in the deaths of four people who stormed the building.

In response to the White House's criticism, Greene said that Democrats needed to learn how sarcasm works. She added that she will continuously support the Second Amendment and will not allow the White House, the left, or the media to continue to wrongly accuse her of something she had nothing to do with.

The Georgia Republican was first elected in 2020 in a safe GOP district and was almost immediately stripped of her committee assignments by House Democrats following her support of conspiracy theories, including QAnon, Yahoo News reported.
