According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, officials in Moscow have begun preparing the population for the potential use of nuclear weapons in the captured territory in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, claims that Russian authorities have started to "prepare their society" for the potential use of nuclear weapons, but he also stated that he does not think Russia is prepared to use them.

Zelensky asserted that a previous statement had been mistranslated in which he denied having called for strikes against Russia.

Zelensky: Russian Officials Are 'Preparing Citizens For Nuclear War'

The Ukrainian army has successfully reclaimed huge areas of terrain in recent weeks, forcing Russian soldiers to leave their long-held positions. President Vladimir Putin has merged four partially occupied regions of Ukraine, which Kyiv views as Moscow's retaliation to its setbacks.

The annexations, which are regarded as unlawful by the majority, have sparked worries about a potential uptick in the seven-month war, as per BBC.. There has been no indication, according to Western sources, that Moscow is willing to protect such areas with nuclear weapons, even though Putin and other senior Russian officials have suggested doing so.

"We have not faced the danger of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis," said US President Joe Biden on Friday, adding that Putin is "not joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons."

According to Fox News, the White House defended Biden's remarks by asserting that "the president was making very clear that the kind of irresponsible rhetoric we have heard is no way for the leader of a nuclear-armed state to speak."

Reporters on Air Force One were informed by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that officials "had not found any need to modify our own strategic nuclear posture."

Putin's Partial Mobilization Order

After Ukraine achieved significant gains and pushed the Russian military back in the Donbas region this week, gaining 25 miles in a single day after Putin claimed to have annexed the rebel region as part of Russia, Putin's rhetoric and policies have gotten more harsh.

Putin granted permission for a partial military mobilization last month, enabling him to declare a draft, which caused Russian men to quit their country to escape serving in the military during what has since proven to be a very challenging campaign for Moscow.

And as a result, Putin has been forced into a situation from which detractors believe he will adopt the most extreme measures. He reiterated his threats to defend what he believed to be Russian territory from other countries with "whatever force required," including nuclear weapons.

Zelensky stated that since Russia's threats posed "a risk for the whole planet," immediate action was required. To force Putin's soldiers out of the Zaporizhia nuclear power facility, he pleaded with the international community to impose sanctions.

Per The Independent, the annexation of four Ukrainian districts was hailed lavishly a week ago by the Kremlin, which claimed it was their return to "the motherland."
