An extract of Queen Elizabeth II’s death certificate was published by National Records Scotland on Thursday, revealing the longest monarch’s cause of death.

Her death certificate indicated that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away from old age. The document, which was released by National Records of Scotland on Thursday, states that the late British monarch passed away at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Scotland, on September 8 at 3:10 PM UK time (10:10 AM ET).

The reason of death is listed as old age. Princess Anne, daughter of the Queen, has signed the paper. At age 96, Britain's monarch with the longest reign passed away peacefully.

Queen Elizabeth II Died of 'Old Age'

A period of national mourning was initiated by her passing. On September 10, King Charles III was solemnly announced as the newmonarch of the United Kingdom after his mother passed away. Global leaders recognized the impact the Queen had made during her 70-year reign, and the world bid the monarch farewell on September 19 in a state funeral rich in pageantry.

King Charles III paid tribute to his mother's historic seven-decade reign, calling it unequaled in its duration, its dedication, and its devotion. Presidents, prime ministers, and members of the royal family attended the solemn service at Westminster Abbey while tens of thousands of spectators lined the 25-mile journey from central London to Windsor in an effort to see the monarch's body.

Later that evening, in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, she and her husband of 73 years, the Duke of Edinburgh, were laid to rest.  Last week, Buckingham Palace released a photo of the monarch's last resting place.

It unveiled a brass lettered ledger stone with the names of the sovereign's parents and her husband engraved on it, made of hand-carved Belgian black marble, as per CNN.

Queen Elizabeth Died While Royal Family Were en Route to Balmoral

Additionally, Queen Elizabeth II passed away while her immediate family was still traveling to Balmoral, according to her death certificate. When they learned she was seriously ill, the Duke of Cambridge, Duke of York, and Earl and Countess of Wessex boarded an RAF jet and flew to Aberdeen to be by her bedside.

The Princess Royal was able to spend her mother's final 24 hours with her mother since the Prince of Wales at the time, Charles, and the Duchess of Cornwall were at Balmoral. Princess Anne said, "I was lucky to spend the last 24 hours of my loving mother's life."

The Princess followed her mother's coffin as it traveled from Balmoral to London through Edinburgh. Dr. Douglas James Allan Glass, a local general practitioner who had the title of Apothecary to the Queen, is listed as the certified registered medical practitioner on the paper.

Dr. Glass, who spent 34 years caring for the late Queen when she was at her Scottish estate, described her passing as upsetting but not unexpected due to her advanced age. The document provides more information about the events of the late Queen's death day, including the confirmation by Buckingham Palace at 12:34 p.m. that her health was a worry and that she was comfortable under their care.

Prince William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie boarded an RAF jet at Northolt at 2:39 and flew to Aberdee. Prince William took the family in his car about 4 pm, and they reached Balmoral at about 5:00 p.m. Prince Harry left Luton at 5:35 p.m. and arrived in Scotland at 6:46 p.m. on his own, traveling to Scotland in the late afternoon.

When the news of his grandmother's passing became public, he reportedly viewed a breaking news alert on his phone as soon as it regained service shortly after 6:30 p.m. after his father's attempts to personally contact him had been unsuccessful. Liz Truss, the prime minister, was told of the Queen's dying around 4:30 p.m. The announcement of the Queen's demise was not made until all family members had been notified, according to a spokeswoman for King Charles III.

When the doctor certifying the death had cared for the patient for a long time, was unaware of any disease or injury that contributed to death, and had noticed a progressive deterioration in the person's overall health and functioning, old age is a regularly cited cause of death for persons over 80.

Old age was also recorded as the reason of death for Prince Philip. During her latter years, the late Queen suffered intermittent mobility issues and frequently used a walking stick in public, The Telegraph via MSN reported.

Meanwhile, the late Queen Elizabeth II can now add peacemaker to her list of accomplishments, according to recent reports that the 96-year-old attempted to persuade Meghan Markle to mend fences with her father, Thomas Markle.

The royal expert Katie Nicholl writes in her book, 'The New Royals Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown,' that the queen was wary of her grandson Prince Harry marrying Meghan Markle before he had met the latter's father. The queen supposedly objected to the father-daughter pair's estrangement from one another as well, according to Fox News.
