A Texas man wielding an AK-47 while dressed as a banana was cited on Monday.
Beaumont police stopped the 18-year-old man, who wore a banana suit from the waist up, with an AK-47 rifle strapped to his back at the corner of Highway 105 and Eastex Freeway.
Officers received multiple calls from concerned passerby and motorists who reported seeing the man holding arms.
But law enforcement officials soon found out the banana man was out doing promotional work for a gun shop nearby.
Local reports indicate that the 18-year-old was holding the barrel of the firearm downward, while he pointed to Golden Triangle Tactical with his other hand, the Mirror reported.
Owner of Golden Triangle Derek Poe told Austinist that he'd commissioned the man to wear the suit and carry the firearm to advertise the store's new location.
The 18-year-old received a citation for violating a city ordinance that bans roadway solicitation, but wasn't charged with any criminal offenses due to Second Amendment rights.
But he was carrying a 50-round magazine attached to the rifle at the time, which could render him subject to criminal charges if police decide to pursue the case.
