49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick struggled early in the season but regained form down the stretch of the regular season. He completed 58.4 percent of his passes for 3,197 yards, 21 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. As he showed last weekend in Green Bay, where he ran for 98 yards, he's still very much a threat on the ground.
"Our defensive ends can't get too far past the quarterbacks or he takes off and it gives him huge lanes," Panthers defensive tackle Dwan Edwards said, via ESPN. "It's important that everyone stays in their lanes and when someone does get out of their lane we have to cover that up quickly."
Carolina got the better of Kaepernick on Nov. 10 with a 10-9 win. While the Panthers left with the win, quarterback Cam Newton admitted he needed to play better than his performance - 16-of-32 and one interception - in that game.
"I need to be better, not missing throws that I'm capable of making," said Newton.
Newton, a third-year pro, is making his postseason debut on Sunday. Still, Newton is determined not to let the moment get too big for him.
"You don't want to be overthinking things," said Newton. "I have yet to experience a playoff game, but I know the atmosphere will be hectic to say the least."
