Fans of the former "Lizzie McGuire" star were shocked to learn today that Hilary Duff has decided split up with her husband Mike Comrie, as E! News reports, and Page Six has the scoop on how much money might be at stake when it comes to their pre-nuptial agreement.

"Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie have mutually decided to an amicable separation," Duff's rep said in a statement. "They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time."

The two share a son together, Luca Cruz Comrie, whom they welcomed into the world in March 2012, two years after they were married in Aug. 2010. They had first begun dating back in 2007.

A source close to the actress told E! News that she and Comrie tried couple's therapy to "fix their romance," but over time they "simply drifted apart" although they remain best friends. The source added that nothing in particular caused a rift in their otherwise seemingly happy relationship.

The New York Post'Page Six reports that Comrie and Duff signed a pre-nup to protect their own assets. The retired NHL hockey player is worth an estimated $5 million while Duff is worth closer to $25 million, while Comrie's family is worth a whopping $500 million, as Comrie's father owns the Canadian furniture and appliance empire, The Brick.

"Mike and I are sitting here,we are so appreciative for all of your kindness& well wishes," Duff tweeted on Friday. "Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together."
