Bryan Singer is reportedly in talks to direct the 2016 Marvel franchise film "X-Men: Apocalypse".

According to Entertainment Weekly, Singer has been eying the movie since the official announcement. However, Marvel has yet to sign Singer on to the "X-Men" project.

"I'm co-writing the story and I'm producing it," Singer told EW. "I'm negotiating to direct. We're in the process. We're trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it."

Singer dished on the potential themes of "X-Men: Apocalypse" to EW, but didn't give ways any specific details about the film.

"It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It's something that's always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers," Singer said.

According to MTV, the themes Singer spoke of follow what is known from the "X-Men" comics and cartoons.

"Widely considered the world's first mutant, Apocalypse was born thousands of years ago and lived in Ancient Egypt, going by the name En Sabah Nur. It's nearly impossible to imagine any movie version of Apocalypse skipping over his ancient past, and it seems that Singer agrees," MTV reports.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is slated to hit theaters on May 23. "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to be released on May 27, 2016.
