Porsha Stewart Divorce: Real Housewives of Atlanta Star Finds Out Marriage is Over Via Twitter

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Stewart found out she was a getting divorced through Twitter, according to ABC News.

The reality TV star, currently married to retired NFL quarterback Kordell Stewart, was bewildered when she heard the news.

“I literally was lying in bed and I looked at Twitter and it was going crazy,” Porsha said in an interview with ABC News. “I saw on Twitter that my husband has filed for divorce.”

Like many cases involving Twitter, scandals, and celebrities, Porsha thought the whole situation was just a rumor. She and Kordell lived in the same house and were only rooms away from each other when she read the news.

“It wasn’t a confrontation. It was me just simply asking my husband, ‘Had you filed?,’ which seemed crazy coming out of my mouth,” she said. “He said he thought about it and we’ll talk about it later and he left for work. I had to call my attorney to find out.”

Kordell filed for divorce on March 22.

“I feel heartbroken and at times I feel ashamed,” Porsha said. “Because I put myself out there to the world as a wife and I was proud to be married and for it to end the way it did, it’s almost like a failure in a way.”

During the show, Kordell insisted his wife stay at home and raise any future children they would have. Porsha's castmates told her—on the show and off the air—that her husband was controlling. She believed her castmates opinion of her marriage only helped to further damage it.

“I personally view a marriage as an equal partnership. I think you should treat each other with respect, consider each other’s needs, and support one another’s dreams and goals and work together as a team,” co-star NeNe Leaks said in a blog post. “I will never talk to Porsha about her relationship again, but if she ever wants to talk to me, I’m here!”

“They called him controlling and that was hard for me to deal with,” Porsha said. “I will not blame this divorce on anyone but the person who filed, and that is my ex.”

Kordell did not offer comment, but his court papers say his marriage is “irretrievably broke.” He also said he should not pay Porsha because she is “an able-bodied person, earning income and is capable of supporting herself.”

Porsha has counter filed, requesting the use of the couple’s 12,000-square-foot mansion and alimony.

“Really what I want is what’s fair, whatever that might be,” she said. “I just want to be happy.”

Porsha is currently working on a music career and a line of hair and make-up products.

“I know that, at the end of the day, he probably didn’t deserve me,” she said. “I feel like I still have a chance to have it all but maybe just a little different this time.”
