A 25-year-old Georgia woman was killed in a car crash hours after she was married when the car overturned and she was ejected from her seat.
Kali Shay Dobson and Ryan Patrick Quinton, 27, had just tied the knot at the Wheeler House in Cherokee County and were driving back from their reception around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when Quinton lost control of their Pontiac Firebird on Highway 5, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.
The car drove off the road, flipped over and tumbled down an embankment. Dobson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was launched from the car and trapped underneath it when it landed. Quinton went in search of help.
"His shirt was all torn up and he was bleeding," said Chris Thomas, who was the first to see Quinton after the crash, to WSBTV. "He had blood all over his face and blood coming out of his hands and stuff and just looked bad. And it scared me to death."
Thomas called 911. Dobson was pronounced dead on the scene.
"There was nothing that could be done," Thomas told WSBTV. "The car was on top of her. You couldn't even see her."
Quinton, who was treated at Northside-Hospital Cherokee, told authorities he lost control of the car because he was trying to avoid hitting a dog.
"Blood was drawn to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor," Georgia Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Franka Young told the Marietta Daily Journal. "The crash is still under investigation. Charges are pending."
The Wheeler House posted their condolences on its Facebook page.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dobson and Quinton families. May Kali and the love this beautiful couple shared never be forgotten."
Thomas told WSBTV he struggled to make sense of what happened.
"What should have been the greatest, most beautiful day of their lives is the end of one and what could very well be something hard for this young man to get over. I pray that he will," Thomas said.
