Hacker Cody Andrew Kretsinger has been sentenced to a year in federal prison, according to PCWorld.com.
Kretsinger received the sentence, which was handed down Thursday, for being a member of the hacking team, Lulz Security that infiltrated a Sony Pictures Website in May 2011.
Lulz Security, a member of the international Anonymous hacktivist collective, went on a hacking rampage in 2011. LulzSec attacked emails, porn site, the U.S Senate, an FBI affiliate and Sony.
At one point, the group publicized 26,000 passwords and emails taken from porn sites. It even released a statement to let everyone know what it was doing. LulzSec said it wouldn’t stop until “we're brought to justice, which we might well be."
Kretsinger, who used the name “recursion” as an online alias, was taken into custody in September 2011. He pleaded guilty to the Sony hacking charges in 2012.
His sentence includes a year in prison, 1000 hours of community service, and $605,663 in required restitution. Other LulzSec members have also pleaded guilty to charges connected to the hacking.
Raynaldo Rivera, or “neuron,” was entered a plea of guilty in October 2012 for conspiracy charges.
Former leader of LulzSec leader Hector Xavier Monsegur, or “Sabu”, was secretly brought in to custody in 2011. He then proceeded to serve as an informant to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His role as an informant is believed to have been crucial in bringing other members of his team to justice.
Monsegur could face as much as 124 years in prison. However he is expected to be rewarded with a lesser sentence for his cooperation with the FBI.
He was scheduled to be sentenced in August 2012. However, after being given two adjournments, the sentencing has moved to August 2013.
