Experts Debate Which Milk is Best for Health

Health experts are now debating which kind of milk is best for the health. This is after a recent study that warned pregnant women and children of the dangers of drinking raw milk.

Whether it’s skim, whole, organic, pasteurized, or raw, choosing the type of milk to drink became even more complicated.

Pregnant women as well as young children were advised by the American Academy of Pediatrics to avoid drinking raw milk which may cause them bacterial illnesses. These include listeriosis, E. coli, salmonella, and other food-borne diseases which can be fatal.

Additionally, the academy endorsed a ban on selling unpasteurized or raw milk and milk products all over the U.S. It includes the selling of some raw milk cheeses such as soft-ripened cheeses, soft cheeses, and fresh cheese.

One of the 30 states that allow the sales of raw milk is California. Raw milk advocates expressed that when there is proper regulation of raw milk production, this type of milk can be safe, delicious, and full of health benefits which include lactose intolerance and giving protection against asthma.

Based on a Minnesota study that was published last week, more people were getting sick because of raw milk wherein most cases are yet to be recognized. In another study, scientists reported that organic whole milk provides more of the fatty acids that are good for the heart as compared with conventional milk. None of the studies gave the last word on the type of beverage that is consumed by several Americans every day which rely on the nutritional benefits that it provides to their children.

Raw milk produced by sheep, goats, and cows has long been identified as source of food-borne illnesses with symptoms such as fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. Moreover, it was also held accountable for unrecorded sporadic illnesses.

The U.S Food and Drug Administration bans the interstate raw milk shipment meant for human consumption. However, it allows transport of certain raw cheeses that are clearly labeled.

With all these arguments, which do you think is the healthiest milk?
