Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker fired another campaign worker, the second in the past four months, after the aide's past tweets about illegal immigrants were brought forward, according to Politico.
Twenty-three-year-old Taylor Palmisano was Walker's deputy finance director for his re-election campaign, and the creator Black Friday campaign, was fired for tweets she made in 2011.
Campaign spokesman Jonathan Wetzel released a statement shortly after the tweets were brought to light distancing the governor from the situation saying "Taylor Palmisano has been immediately removed from her position with the Friends of Scott Walker campaign," and that "both the Governor, and the campaign, condemn these insulting remarks which do not reflect our views in any way," according to UPI.com.
After being fired, Palmisano released a statement saying she understood the reason for her removal from the campaign.
"I deeply regret these offensive and irresponsible remarks," Palmisano said in the statement, according to the Sentinel. "I sincerely apologize, and understand the consequences of making such unacceptable statements."
Walker, whose campaign has called on Republicans to reach out to minority voters, is up for reelection in 2014, and is a possible contender for the Republican presidential candidate in 2016, according to Politico. In August, Walker fired his deputy secretary at the State Department of Transportation, Steven Kreiser, after the Sentinel reported his Facebook posts comparing immigrants to Satan.
According to the Sentinel, in October, after the firing of the first aide, Walker offered the idea of opening a Mexican consulate in Wisconsin to Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto, in order to better serve the Mexican community in the area.
