Tom Cruise Wasn't Expecting a Divorce From Katie Holmes

In a recent German TV interview, Tom Cruise revealed that he didn't expect that Katie Holmes would ask for a divorce and end their six-year marriage.

Cruise spoke for the first time about his divorce with actress Holmes during an interview with a German TV. According to a news report by E!Online, the actor said he wasn't expecting Holmes to ask him for a divorce and end their six-year marriage.

"Life is a challenge. You are 50 and you think you have everything in order and suddenly it hits you - that's what life is all about," Cruise said in the interview with the German TV. "Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor."

The couple was married for six years and even have a 6-year-old daughter Suri. Suri currently stays with her mother in New York. Holmes announced their separation on June 29, five days before Cruise's 50th birthday. After speedy negotiations, both sides' lawyers reached a settlement two weeks later.

The action star has since thrown himself into work. Cruise will follow "Oblivion" with another action flick, "All You Need is Kill," next year. And Cruise also announced during a recent appearance on the U.K.'s "The Graham Norton Show" that he's "working on the story" for a fifth Mission: Impossible film, though he declined to divulge any more details.
