Award season is officially underway, and the 2016 Oscar nominations we've been waiting for have finally arrived! The nominations for the 88th annual Academy Awards were announced this morning during a special two-part news conference, and it looks like this may be the year Leonardo DiCaprio finally takes home an Oscar as his latest film, "The Revenant," leads the way with 12 nominations. DiCaprio has been nominated six times in the past, but has never won.

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, directors Guillermo Del Toro and Ang Lee, and actor John Krasinski took turns revealing the actors, animators, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, documentarians, makeup artists, musicians, producers, production designers, screenwriters, sound editors, sound mixers and visual effects editors being honored in the 24 categories for the year's top films.

As expected, "The Big Short," "Bridge of Spies," "Mad Max: Fury Road," "The Martian," "Spotlight," "Steve Jobs," "The Hateful Eight" and "Room" are all also nominated for several major awards.

Chris Rock, who helmed the awards ceremony back in 2005, will be hosting the show once again when the Oscars are handed out Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center. The presentation will air live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET. See the full list of nominees below!
