Shooting at Detroit Barbershop Leaves At Least Two Dead, Police Believe Two Suspects, Two Chevy Impalas Involved

Shots were fired near a Detroit barbershop Wednesday evening, leaving ten people injured and at least two dead.

All of the victims were male, according to Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who spoke with the Detroit Free Press. The incident occurred outside of Al's barbershop on East Seven Mile road at around 6 p.m. Local police reported that they're currently looking for at least two suspects and two cars they were reportedly seen driving: one black Chevrolet Impala and one white Chevrolet Impala that could have a number of bullet holes on its back fender.

Law enforcement officials reported that the two cars were tailing each other on East Seven Mile road, while the passengers within let off rounds of ammunition into the opposite vehicle.

Meanwhile, customers in the barbershop were playing dice when they heard the gunshots. Police spokesperson Kelly Miner said that someone opened the door once they realized what was happening, causing the rest of the patrons to flee from the shop, seeking refuge in other stores closeby. Miner said that no official motive has been found, and it is still unclear whether some of the people in the barbershop were targeted or involved.

Some of the victims who sustained injuries were taken to a few hospitals in the area. One was rushed to Detroit Receiving, and another man is said to be in critical condition.

Witness Lorne Carter told the Detroit Free Press that he was standing outside a neighboring store smoking a cigarette when he heard around 30 or 40 rounds of gunfire.

"It sounded rapid," he recalled.

Police at the site of the shooting were questioning witnesses, but are still investigating some details of the event, including how many people were in the barbershop when the shooting happened.
