Virginia Woman Defends Young Son’s KKK Halloween Costume, Says It’s a Family Tradition (VIDEO)

A Virginia woman is defending her young son's choice to dress up as a member of the Klu Klux Klan for Halloween. Jessica Black from Craigsville, Va. is drawing a lot of criticism for letting her 7-year-old son dress up as a member of the white supremacist group, MSN reports.

The mom proudly posted photos on Facebook of her son, Jackson Black, and defended their decision by telling people that it is somewhat of a family tradition. Black told WHSV TV that her brother, Jackson's uncle, also dressed up as a member of the KKK so when her little boy wanted to do the same, she made him a costume.

"My brother has when he was in Kindergarten and when he was 13," she said.

"I did tell [Jackson] that if you do it, you know there's going to be people talking about you, there's going to be people saying bad things about you when you do wear it," she continued.

When the little boy was asked why he wanted to dress up as a member of the controversial group he said "because it was cool" adding that he first learned about them from the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes."

The costume didn't sit well with neighbors and her Facebook friends. Black said she has received threats after someoneone posted a photo of Jackson on the TV station's page.

"I just think it's really sad that a kid is being taught that. That young, because they don't know any better," Wendi Sprouse, a neighbor told the TV station. "You don't hear that much about it."

Still Black sees nothing wrong with the costume telling the station that she plans on sticking by her decision.

"It's supposed to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that," she said. "That's what the KKK stands for. The KKK every year raises money to donate to the St. Jude's."
