CBS's hit series "How I Met Your Mother" is ending this season, and producers may have found a way to fill the void it will leave in their fans: a spin off.

According to Deadline, HIMYM producer is in talks with 20th Century fox about a possible spin off revolving around a female lead searching for her future husband.

"I hear the new characters could be introduced in the HIMYM series finale, and Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin's favorite hangout, MacLaren's Pub, may be featured on the new show, serving as a link between the two gangs," Deadline reports.  "The premise, which is not tied to any of the original HIMYM characters, gives [show writers] Bays, Thomas and Spivey a clean slate to build new characters and relationships."

HIMYM is a show about a father telling his children about his life leading up to how he found his soul mate and was finally able to settle down.  "The Mother" has already been revealed to fans in the first episode of the final season, but how they met is still a mystery.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, several other popular shows are possibly working on spin offs or have already created them:

"In addition to this potential follow-up, studio 20th Television is also in early talks for a possible Modern Family spinoff. This season, ABC launched Once Upon a Time's Wonderland-set spin off, and The CW has found early success with The Vampire Diaries' offshoot The Originals. The CW also has a planted spin off set for sophomore drama Arrow, centering on DC Comics hero The Flash. CBS is already prepping a New Orleans-set NCIS spinoff from showrunner Gary Glasberg and star Mark Harmon."
