Samsung launched the much-awaited Galaxy S4-Companion Life with much fanfare at the Radio City Music Hall, New York, last week. The new Galaxy is packed with the latest design and tech features and the South Korean tech giant has proved once again why it deserves to be among the best.
Samsung designed its new high-end tech gadget to exceed everyone's expectations. Its hardware is not very different from its predecessor Samsung Galaxy S3, but is slightly smaller in width and thickness. However, it manages to have a large 5-inche Super AMOLED fully HD LCD screen. S4 is comparably lighter and thinner than S3 at 130g and 7.9mm against 133g and 8.6mm. But in terms of screen resolution, Samsung S4 gives tough competition to any other smartphone in the market. It boasts a 1080x1920 resolution with 441 pixels per inch screen, promising greater picture clarity.
Latest Exynos 5 Octa Processor, Runs on Jelly Bean 4.2.2
Samsung outshines any other Smartphone with its latest Exynos 5 Octa processor or the 1.9GHz Quad-Core processor and makes it the first Smartphone ever to have an 8-core chip, which helps in multi tasking and power saving. It includes the latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 while every other Android phone is running on Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Air Gesture Controls
Other new features that Samsung has packed in its Galaxy S4 model are the air gesture controls, which allow one to browse pictures, change music, accept calls without even touching the phone. Notably, the smart pause feature halts a video if the viewer is looking away from the screen, ensuring not a moment of the video or movie is missed. It resumes automatically when the viewer faces the screen.
Camera Features
Apart from the 13-megapixels rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, the new camera options include 'Eraser' that removes unwanted people from a shot and a 'dual-shot mode' that allows the functioning of both cameras simultaneously so no one is missed while taking a snap.
The 'Sound and Shot' option not only takes a picture but also records sounds up to 9 seconds. The camera features a special Cinema Shot mode, which takes short videos and a user can decide which parts remain unchanged, still or even animated.
S Translate, S Health and Voice Drive
Samsung S4's voice recognition has been improved greatly. According to IGN, the S Translate and S Voice Drive work exceptionally well. It also includes S Health, a new app. S Health is helpful in tracking sleep patterns, nutrition information and fitness through a range of accessories including S Band, Body Scale and HRM (Heart Rate Monitoring) Bands.
Group Play
Another fascinating software feature of the Smartphone is the Group Play which can sync the phone with other S4s without Wi-Fi or mobile broadband connection. Connect Gaming, sharing music or a photo across other connected devices gives a pleasurable experience. According to the Samsung director of product marketing, Ryan Bidan, five S4s synced together can work as an alternative to for five-channel surround music system.
Samsung is currently the biggest rival of Apple in the Smartphone market and it shipped nearly 215.8 million Smartphones across the globe last year while Apple shipped 136.8 million iPhones worldwide, according to a report from Tech Radar. Samsung S4's availability across 155 countries in April is likely to mark remarkable sales in 2013.
