Ke$ha’s concert in Malaysia has been canceled by authorities and even threatened the Warrior singer with imprisonment.
The Warrior singer clarified in a Twitter post that she wasn’t the one who intentionally backed out from the event; she was forced to do so.
"To be clear. I did NOT cancel. I was not allowed to play. and then I was going to play anyways and was threatened with imprisonment," she wrote from her official Twitter account.
According to the Associated Press, the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia authorities banned the planned concert because they believed that it “would hurt cultural and religious sensitivities.” The U.S singer is known for binge drinking and dating for her concert themes.
LiveScape Asia, the promoter of the concert, said in a statement that they have tried to comply with the requirements of the authorities.
"Livescape would also like to go on record to applaud and thank Kesha and her team for working closely with us and having agreed to modify the show to suit the Malaysian culture and sensitivities," the statement said, "including having made adjustments to her song lyrics, wardrobe changes, and a set list that was modified to specifically adhere to the guidelines set forth by the authorities."
However, the Muslim authorities obviously was still wasn’t convinced that the concert can meet their cultural and religious standards. The promoter suffered a loss of $350,000 due to the cancellation.
Ke$ha is not the first artist to be banned by Malaysian authorities. A metal group Lamb of God was also banned in September of the same grounds.
TMZ believes that the authorities may have been concerned about her song lyrics which talks about sex and alcohol.
Ke$ha still has two upcoming events. One is on Nov. 3 with Pitbull at Hindmarsh, Australia and Nov. 12 at Tokyo, Japan.
