Two Canadian brothers posed for the selfie-of-the-year with a beautiful bald eagle in Ontario, Canada. In what social media has labelled the most memorable selfie ever, brothers Neil and Michael Fletcher posed with the rescued bald eagle in the Dowling woods of Ontario, according to CNN.

The brothers started out on a brotherly hunting trip that ironically turned into an animal rescue mission when they came upon a bald eagle caught in a trap, reported AJC. The Fletchers slowly moved toward the bird, covered it with one of their jackets, and then freed it from the trap. Their dog curiously sniffed around the snowy area.

After the Fletcher brothers freed the bird from the trap they decided to take a selfie with it before setting letting it fly away, noted ABC.

“It didn’t really fuss or give any sign of aggression. I don’t know if it knew we were helping him or what,” Michael told The Sudbury Star.

Then they posted the selfie on Facebook and watched the "likes" add up.

"Neil just said, 'Hey, let's take a selfie with it,' and I did. [The bald eagle] didn't move," Fletcher said. "We knew it would get some ‘likes,’" but they did not expect it thousands of likes.

"I know it’s a cool picture," he said.

The selfie went viral with more than 2,000 likes, 100 comments and 61 shares and counting.

After they took the selfie Michael watched Neil lift the bird to shoulder height, nudge it, and the bald eagle flapped off into a nearby tree, noted The Sudbury Star.

"We watched it for 10 or 15 minutes and then we took off, and it stayed in the tree," Michael said. "I was surprised by the size, and that it's such a beautiful bird. When you see the eyes up close, they're really amazing."

The brothers continued hunting for grouse, a plump game bird with feathered legs, but didn't catch any. They weren't disappointed because rescuing the bald eagle was the highlight of their hunt.

"It wouldn't have beaten that," Michael said.
