Jon Favreau's indie flick "Chef" will be remade into a Bollywood film, and Saif Ali Khan will take the lead role in the Hindi-language re-creation of an acclaimed chef who quits his restaurant job and reinvents himself by starting his own food truck, according to Variety.

The Bollywood remake, which does not have a director yet, will be produced by Abundantia Entertainment, Eros International and Alumbra Entertainment, the companies announced on Wednesday. Eros International will handle the film's distribution worldwide.

Abundantia acquired the rights to the film from Fairview Entertainment, a production company founded by Favreau, who not only starred in the original but also wrote and directed the film.

"Ever since I first saw 'Chef, I knew that this film had to be made in India," said Abundantia founder Vikram Malhotra, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Charming relationships, a feel-good story and a unique journey of self-discovery make 'Chef' the ideal film to bring alive in an Indian context."

"I'm delighted to see Chef get an Indian remake," Favreau said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I'm excited to see how this personal film translates to the Indian culture. The themes of food, music and family should resonate well."
