Though sources have claimed that Kris Humphries originally paid a whopping $2 million for Kim Kardashian's 20-carat diamond engagement ring, CNN reports that his ex-fiancee's ring was auctioned off Tuesday, Oct. 15 in New York by Christie's for a much lesser sum.

The last remnant from Humphries's and Kardashian's 72-day marriage allegedly sold for $749,000 at the auction, far exceeding the house's pre-sale estimates of $300,000 to $500,000.

"This impressive diamond ring was sought out by two bidders in the back of the room, one online bidder and was ultimately won by a bidder on the phone," Gabriel Ford, a spokesman for Christie's, told CNN.

The massive ring was designed by Kardashian family friend Lorraine Schwartz, who reportedly gave Humphries a "great deal" on the piece, and was featured in the auction's "Bright and Beautiful" collection. The ring is made up of a 16.21 carat-rectangular cut diamond "which is then flanked by a 1.80-carat diamond on either side," according to the Daily Mail. The ring adds up to just under 20-carats, just under the reported 20-carats of Kardashian's ring, though discrepancies about carat size are too slight to make much of a difference.

After just six months of dating, the NBA star proposed to Kardashian, and their swanky wedding was said to be a publicity stunt as the two then spent two-and-a-half years in a highly publicized divorce battle that brought plenty of bad press to both sides and especially made Kim Kardashian the subject of public ridicule.

However, the reality star seemed satisfied when everything was finally settled, and has since moved on with her new boyfriend, Kanye West, with whom she shares an infamous relationship and 4-month-old daughter with, North "Nori" West. As for the future of "Kimye," as fans call them, insiders have claimed that the two may soon take their own walk down the aisle.

"Kanye has been in love with Kim for years," a source told US Weekly back in August. "He's so happy now, and seriously into her. He has told his friends and family that he was going to wife her since the day they met."

West's previous relationship with model Amber Rose did not last more than two years, and he had been a friend of Kardashian's at the time.
