Boston improved to 2-0-0 for the season on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Detroit. For Bruins coach Claude Julien, one big difference between this season and the previous lock out-shortened season is the amount of rest the schedule affords his team.
"It's good in a way with the new players that we have in our lineup, not necessarily about teaching, but again going through some things here that are reminders," Julien told the team website, via ESPN. "And you hear me say a lot about making things become second nature and by repeating things in practice, it gives you that opportunity to create that."
For Colorado, the team is enjoying one of its best starts. The Avalanche sit undefeated at 3-0-0 for the first time in 18 years, according to ESPN. First-year coach Patrick Roy has already made his presence felt on the team and the record shows it.
"It's just more momentum on our side," Cory Sarich told the team website, via ESPN. "We have to keep working on things, we have to stay grounded. We'll enjoy (the win) for a minute."
The Avalanche are coming off a 2-1 win over Toronto. There hasn't been one standout superstar on the roster. Instead, Colorado is winning as a team. Rookie Nathan MacKinnon notched his fourth assist of the season against the Maple Leafs, and P.A. Parenteau leads the team with three goals.
"This is what our team is about right now. Everybody is chipping in," Roy told the team website. "Overall, it's a team effort and that's what we're looking for."
