Raymond Reddington and Ultron may soon run into a bit of a problem.

Star actor James Spader currently plays the criminal masterming Reddington on NBC’s “The Blacklist” and the show continues to do well. It drew 12.1 million viewers in the 18-to-49 age demographic last night and 12.6 million viewers in the same demographic for the season premiere.

If NBC’s hit show continues to hover around these numbers or do even better, Spader—who is also slated to play Ultron in “Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron”—may have a scheduling conflict, according to TVLine.com.

Production for the second Avenger’s movie is supposed to start early 2014, possibly as soon as March, and occur overseas. If “The Blacklist” isn’t canceled and runs the full season, production likely wouldn’t end until April—hence the conflict.

“I’m hoping that it’s going to be a fairly smooth transition, but I don’t know,” Spader told the website. “We’ll wait and see how long ‘The Blacklist’ plays."

“If it plays a full season,” he added, “then I’m sure I will be packing my bags in the last few days of our production on ‘The Blacklist’ in preparation to get over to London and start shooting The Avengers.”

It seems Spader’s predictions about packing his bags could be true. Barring any unforeseen conflicts, “The Blacklist” should continue its strong performance. Its storyline is impeccable and there are still many questions to answer, including those about Spader’s character Reddington.

Spader said the answers to those questions will be “eked out slowly” as the season progresses.

“The Blacklist” airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC.
