John McAfee is to develop D-Central, a product that can make users anonymous and untraceable to the National Security Agency.
During a talk at the C2SV conference in Silicon Valley on Saturday, McAfee, the eccentric mogul, divulged his plans in opening a company named Future Tense Central. Its first product is still on its development stage and will be called D-Central..
During these days when security is such a big issue, "we don't have much [security] anymore, and certainly not in the online world," McAfee said at the conference. "If you can give me just any small amount of information about yourself, I promise you, within three days, I can turn on the camera on your computer at home and watch whatever you're doing."
When asked what he would do if the U.S. Government prohibits the market of his new product, without a blink, he said, "It's quite possible the federal government will not allow me to sell this product, too," McAfee told the audience. "But the federal government is not the world. I mean, if that happens, I will swallow it and I will sell it in England, and if I can't sell it there, I'll sell it in Japan, I'll sell it in China, I'll sell it in Russia, I'll go to the Third World. This is coming and it can't be stopped."
According to McAfee, D-Central is not intended to make another type of Internet. It aims to combine various pieces of technology into a single app package that works well with PCs and mobile devices.
McAfee said, instead of broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal that is used to access the Internet quickly, it shows information that its owner wishes to make public. "The device has a range of about three blocks in the city or a quarter of a mile out in the country."
Conversely, McAfee stressed that even if the information is in the public domain, its owners' identities are not. "D-Central doesn't know who you are," said McAfee. "Every few minutes, [the device] changes its identification. There is simply no way to tell who is doing what, when or where."
A prototype is anticipated to be on hand in six months and the product will cost less than $100. McAfee is very positive that his product will sell.
