After the release of the 2016 Accord last July, Honda has taken yet another definitive step at reinvigorating its best-selling model, the Honda Civic. Hailed as the most important and ambitious remake of the compact car, the production version of the Civic was unveiled late Wednesday, according to CNN Money.

The 2016 Civic, as opposed to the outgoing model, will feature a sportier exterior design. The car's interior will also have a significant upgrade, with "soft-touch" materials that give the car a luxurious feel. Apart from this, the interior also has 3.7 cubic feet more space than the outgoing model, with an additional 2 inches of legroom in the rear seat, reports MSN Money.

Just like its bigger brother, the 2016 Accord, the 2016 Civic will also feature a touch screen that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto. Features like collision mitigation braking and other advanced safety features are also available.

The Civic has been credited as one of the pillars of Honda's business, selling an average of 800,000 cars annually. The 1980's model has been credited for the company's breakthrough in the United States market. With a durable frame, modern design, and a fuel efficiency that was absent from American cars during the era, many people were drawn to the compact Civic, according to CNBC News.

However, the outgoing Civic has been criticized for being drab and mediocre, which caused sales of the iconic model to drop significantly in recent years. With the 2016 Civic set to hit the showrooms soon, Honda hopes that the new model can win the hearts of consumers once more.
