Tom Cruise is teaming up with director Doug Lima yet again to bring life back to Lima's sci-fi flick, "Luna Park," Variety reported. The out-of-this-world project has spent a long time in the works.

Cruise is on board and will reportedly be cast in the starring role, Entertainment Weekly confirmed. This is the third time Cruise will collaborate with Liman, after the pair struck gold with 2014's alien war film, "Edge of Tomorrow" and the forthcoming drug-trafficking movie, "Mena." The latter title is slated for a 2017 release.

Liman first attempted to shoot "Luna Park" in 2011 with Paramount Pictures, but the projected was halted over issues in the film's budget, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Paramount is back on board with the film, especially after the success of Cruise's "Mission: Impossible" franchise.

The film follows a group of rogue former space employees who steal parts in order to return to the moon to obtain an energy source, according to Variety.

It's unclear when Cruise would be available to shoot "Luna Park," according to Entertainment Weekly. The actor's calendar will fill up when he beings filming "Jack Reacher 2" and when production begins on the sixth installment of the wildly popular "Mission: Impossible" series.
