BlackBerry has introduced a new model to its smartphone family. The BlackBerry Z30, which comes with a 5-inch display, stereo speakers and a bigger battery with the latest version of the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
The Z30 might be better known to those who follow the company as the A10, as it was known when it was in development. CEO Thorsten Heins has alluded in interviews that the Z30 model will become the company's new flagship smartphone, taking up the tier above the Z10 and Q10.
BlackBerry has been a concerning company to follow as its first quarter saw a disappointing number of BlackBerry 10 devices sold. The company will report its fiscal second quarter results next week but rumors of layoffs have only made these concerns increase. According to CNET, the company is currently "exploring strategic alternatives," which is likely its way of saying that it is looking for a buyer.
BlackBerry seems to be jumping on board the latest trend of having smartphones with large screen sizes that Samsung has made so popular with its Galaxy Note family of smartphones. The Z30 has a 5-inch Super AMOLED display. The device sports a 1.7GHz processor and quad-core graphics. The phone comes with a larger 2,880 mAh battery, which the company boasts is the largest ever put into a BlackBerry device. This battery will give the phone about 25 hours of mixed use.
The Z30 also includes new stereo speakers and Paratek Antenna technology that will dynamically tune the reception of the smartphone to provide for a better connection in low-signal areas. Despite it's new features, many are wondering if the Z30 is too little too late for the staggering smartphone company.
The Z30 will launch with select carriers and retailers in the U.K and Middle East as early as next week. Other regions will be coming in time for the holiday season.
