Boise State bounced back from its opening 6-38 blowout loss against Washington by routing UT Martin, 63-14. Air Force, meanwhile opened the season with a 38-13 win over Colgate before being crushed by Utah State in a 20-52 loss.
For the Broncos, it's about tightening up on defense and having the offense continue to move the ball behind the efforts of quarterback Joe Southwick and running back Jay Ajayi.
"Hopefully we can use the momentum from last game and just roll it over to this game," Boiste State receiver Shane-Williams told the Idaho Statesman.
Boise State, however, can expect a stiffer challenge from Air Force than what UT Martin gave.
Air Force has a strong running game. Jon Lee, a junior, leads the Falcons in rushing this season with 18 rushes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Their aggressive offensive line poses problems for defenders, and it should be no different against Boise State's relatively inexperienced defense, the Idaho Statesmen reports.
For Boise State, their biggest challenge will be making tackles - an area they struggled in during their last game.
"A lot of (the Skyhawks') big plays were based off missed tackles - multiple missed tackles," Boise State defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski said, via The Statesman. "A lot of it has to do with inexperience. We just haven't played a lot of live football."
Boise State head coach Chris Petersen believes the tackling will come with more experience.
"Really good defenses, you don't have a lot of huge tackling issues," he said. "When you have young guys, they're thinking about a lot of things. ... It comes with experience. Good players who have been out there a long time are going to tackle better than new and young guys."
