Mark Zuckerberg, chairman and CEO of Facebook, who launched Facebook from a dorm room in Harvard University has now left no stone unturned to reach the heights of success.
The company reached the one billion active users milestone in seven years. It took McDonalds took 40 years to reach one billion customers.
The top five countries from where users have logged in the most, in alphabetical order are: Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States. According on an official reported released, Facebook users have uploaded up to 220 billion photos so far since 2005, which definitely a huge number.
Zuckerberg wrote in a letter to users this week for the "special" achievement
"We belong to a rich tradition of people making things that bring us together." he wrote. "Today, we honor this tradition. We honor the humanity of the people we serve. We honor the everyday things people have always made to bring us together: Chairs, doorbells, airplanes, bridges, games. These are all things that connect us. And now Facebook is a part of this tradition of things that connect us too."
When asked about his celebration of this historic moment, Zuckerberg said: "Well, just everyone came together and counted down. Then we all went back to work. We have this ethos where we want to be a culture of builders, right?
"We don't want to overly celebrate any particular milestone, so what we do is we have hackathons. We have themed hackathons for different things. We're having a hackathon to celebrate this when we announce it publicly, and the theme is going to be the next billion," he said. "So people will be thinking of ideas and working on prototypes and things that we'll need to do to help connect the next billion people, which I think is pretty cool."
Zuckerberg has a vision of connecting the whole world through Facebook.
"I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too," Zuckerberg posted on Facebook wall.
