Former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Kim Richards was placed under citizen's arrest on Sunday after she was caught shoplifting from a Target department store in San Fernando Valley, Calif, Us Weekly confirmed. Richards was suspected of walking out of the store with close to $600 worth of items in her cart. She was placed under citizen's arrest around 4:30 p.m.

Richards spent the night in jail and was subsequently released on $5,000 bail, E! News reported. She was released on Tuesday after being charged with a misdemeanor.

"I couldn't imagine Kim stealing or shoplifting anything. She is a giver," Richards' ex-husband Monty told Entertainment Tonight. "I am in complete shock. Guaranteed this must be some kind of mistake, and the facts will come out soon. She was arrested for shoplifting toys in a cart, but this was a clear misunderstanding. This was not alcohol or drug related."

Richards was previously arrested on April 16 at the Beverly Hills Hotel after security guards responded to a fight. She was described as acting belligerent with slurred speech and reeking of alcohol. She faced three misdemeanor charges, resisting arrest, public intoxication and battery on a peace officer, after the incident.

Following her arrest at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Richards entered a rehab facility but left early to attend her daughter's wedding in Mexico. It was the second time she had left rehab early this year, according to People.
