Shakira has confirmed the birth of a healthy baby boy on Tuesday at 9.36 p.m. in Barcelona, Spain, according to a statement issued by Shakira's spokeswoman.
The Colombian singer and FC Barcelona's soccer star, Gerard Pique, welcomed Milan Pique Mebarak. Milan means "dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification," according to the announcement.
"I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life," the singer tweeted.
The baby boy is reported in "perfect health" and weighed 6 pounds and 6 ounces, according to hospital personnel.
"We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique," read the announcement. Shakira posted on her site in different languages referring to all her fans worldwide "just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth," in English, Spanish and Catalan.
Skakira was Initially scheduled for a Jan. 20 delivery, however the date was pushed Jan. 22. The team of surgeons included only women who had to sign an agreement to maintain confidentiality and avoid any disclosure of information or photos, according to a report by the Huffington Post.
