Comedian D.L. Hughley is not a fan of Caitlyn Jenner. Hughley openly criticized ESPN's decision to give Jenner the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 EPSYs and said he did not agree with the decision.
When asked about Jenner receiving the honor named after the late tennis great, Hughley said she was not on the same level as Ashe. "Ashe fought AIDS with dignity and honor, and Caitlyn Jenner put on a dress. I don't think it's the same thing," Hughley said. Ashe was the first and only black man to win the singles title at Wimbledon. He died at age 49 in 1993 after battling AIDS, E! reported.
A TMZ camera man caught up with "The Original Kings of Comedy" star and asked what Hughley thought of Caitlyn Jenner. "She is a beautiful woman, isn't she?" the TMZ cameraman asked Hughley. "No," he replied quickly. "In a Miss Doubtfire kind of way. Stop it," Hughley said, and added that Jenner "looks like very P.E. teacher I've ever had."
Hughley is not the only person to agree that Jenner should not have been given the award. Many on social media believed the Arthur Ashe Courage award should have gone to Lauren Hill, a Mount St. Joseph women's basketball player who raised more than $1.5 million for cancer research. Hill died at the age of 19 from brain cancer. "I think that Lauren Hill was courageous in the name of sports," Hughley told TMZ. "I think Arthur Ashe and Caitlyn Jenner have very little in common."
