Jennifer Lawrence Clarifies Meryl Streep Comment Made at The Golden Globes

Jennifer Lawrence clarifies the Meryl Streep comment she made after receiving her award at the Golden Globes.

Lawrence came under the wrath of fans on Twitter after she made a comment on Meryl Streep, while receiving the award for the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.

The quote is actually from the movie "First Wives Club." As she went on stage she said "Oh, what does it say? 'I beat Meryl'!" and this didn't go down to well with people who hadn't seen the movie or didn't recall the quote thinking it referred directly to Streep

"It's never a good idea for me to wing it, but it was a quote from 'First Wives Club'," Lawrence told David Letterman on his show Tuesday. "[In the movie] Bette Midler was talking about a Globe - I can't believe nobody has ever done it before - where she says, 'Look what it says, it says I beat Meryl.'"

One of the stars to take offence to Lawerence's comment was actress Lindsay Lohan, who took to her Twitter account to express her views. Lohan spent the entire evening live commenting the Golden Globes and was not very pleased with Lawrence's little quip.

Lawrence herself was quite upset about the attacks from the "twitterverse."

Lawrence said she hasn't heard from Streep after the whole incident went down and is not sure she wants to. She said she's nervous even though she knows it's not easy to offend the legendary actress and hopes she hadn't.

"Hey idiots. It's a quote from a movie," Lawerence said.
