Jessica Simpson is reuniting with NBC for a scripted comedy based on her life according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In 2004, NBC ordered television pilot called "Jessica," which was not picked up. Simpson is widely-known for the reality MTV series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," starring ex-husband, Nick Lachey, which featured their marriage. The series ran for three seasons.
"We are thrilled to team up with the multitalented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," Electus founder and chairman, Ben Silverman said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."
"I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy," Simpson said. "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing."
Simpson's second effort at scripted comedy will be co-produced by Universal Television and Electus, inspired by the singer's life. Nick Bakay will write the scripts and Silverman will co-produce along with Simpson's father/manager, Joe Simpson. Simpson's other endeavors in movies include "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Employee of the Month" and "Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous" and her small-screen appearances "Entourage" and "That 70's Show."
