A teenage father from North Carolina was arrested Thursday for biting off his 1-month-old son's nose out of irritation as the infant was incessantly crying, Fairfield police said.

Police booked 18-year-old Joshua Cooper on suspicion of child cruelty and aggravated mayhem and he is now at Solano County Jail, reports CBS. The authorities responded to a call from the 17-year-old mother who said her baby son's nose was bleeding profusely.

Upon arriving at 1000 block of Alaska Avenue, authorities found that baby was bleeding and transported him immediately to North Bay Medical Center. After examination, doctors said that the infant's nose was severed and there were chances of head trauma.

After this the baby was taken to Oakland Children's Hospital. Doctors there said the baby had skull fracture, brain hemorrhage and one-third of his nose was severed.

Investigation showed that Cooper was frustrated at the infant's continuous crying. Following this he tore off the baby's nose in anger. Cooper is under custody. No further details have been revealed.

The baby is in a stable condition now. Investigating officers said they are continuing to determine how the infant sustained skull injuries.

Recent reports show that young teenage parents are finding it difficult to handle the responsibility of raising a baby. Last month, a 19-year-old father was sentenced up to 10 years in jail for breaking 19 bones of his 20-day-old infant son. David Steiger, the father of the baby, gave several conflicting statements to police about his son's broken bones. Upon further interrogation, he later confessed he might be at fault for fracturing the baby's bones. He said he pushed the infant's legs so hard that it made a 'pop' sound. The authorities said that the sound might be the baby's femur and tibia breaking.
