Derek Jeter is a legend, hands down, and there really isn't a better word to describe him.

This is exactly why Nickelodeon has decided to honor him with the Legend Award at the second annual "Kids' Choice Sports Awards 2015."

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively learned that the retired pro is set to win this award "in recognition of his unmatched talent, integrity and sportsmanship on and off the field."

Nickelodeon described the award as an honor to athletes "who are the ultimate role models to kids across the globe, inspiring generations year after year."

Jeter admitted that he is "honored" to be given the recognition.

"Inspiring kids to follow their dreams and live a healthy lifestyle is so important to me," he went on to say. "So I want to take this opportunity to tell all aspiring athletes out there to work hard, love what you do, put your best foot forward and never forget the kid in you."

After 20 years as a New York Yankee, Jeter is well-deserving of this award. The baseball player is a five-time World Series Champion and exclusively joined the 3,000-hit club in 2011. He also took home the World Series MVP award in 2000.

Last year, soccer star David Beckham was the first to receive this honorary award. He was doused in gold slime on stage with his two sons while receiving the award.

Tune in to the "Kids' Choice Sports Awards 2015" show on Nickelodeon on July 16 at 8 p.m. ET to see Jeter receive the award.

The award show will be hosted by Seattle Seahawks' two-time Super Bowl quarterback, Russell Wilson.
