The birth of a rare sloth bear at NaturZoo Rheine in Germany was kept quiet so the cub could spend his first months of life unbothered with his mom. 

During those months, a hidden camera captured the mother sloth bear, Devi, being an excellent mother to her new son Niko, reported Zoo Borns. 

Niko's father, Franz, was also born and raised at the zoo, but the mother is the only one who can take care of the cub so early in life. If the father stepped in, he would be considered a threat to the baby, according to a translation of NaturZoo Rheine's Facebook page. 

It will still be several more weeks before Niko can start to explore his outdoor exposure, but in the mean time, check out some pictures of the adorable little guy:
