Channing Tatum has officially signed on to star in his own “Gambit” spinoff movie, according to Deadline.

It’s no secret Tatum has been circling the project for months now, but the actor had yet to sign a deal with FOX. The production has also signed “Robocop” writer Josh Zetumer to help pen the “X-Men” spinoff.

Tatum recently spoke about the opportunity to play a mutant during an interview with MTV News. At the time the actor was out promoting his animated film “Book of Life”, also starring Diego Luna and Zoe Saldana.

The future “Gambit” actor explained he was sill talking to producers about finding the best scriptwriter for the film. Tatum wanted to make sure “X-Men” fans get a new perspective of the Ragin’ Cajun.

“I don’t want to give too much away because we don’t know that much right now other than who Gambit is,” he said. “We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go to the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but not for the first one.”

Tatum stated something similar during an interview with the Latino Review back in June. The actor claimed he was studying up on his Cajun accent and really trying to embody the character.

"I'm super hyped about it. I would say we're going to try do something maybe a little different," Tatum told The Latino Review. "I don't know how to exactly explain it just yet, but he's a character character. He's got a serious Cajun accent. I don't know if you've heard a Cajun accent, but [we're] going to [need] subtitles at some times.

"He has also a 'Jedi mind trick' thing that we're going to [try to] put in where he speaks Patou...I'm going to have to learn Patou, which is going to be really hard, but we'll see."

Unfortunately for fans, producers have yet to sign a director to helm the “Gambit” solo movie and there is no official release date for the project.
