Apple suppliers are reportedly delaying the production of the larger Apple iPad that is expected to commence December this year due to the strong demands for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The suppliers decided to prioritize the production of the existing iPhones over the new iPad. They plan to start working on the production of the larger iPad early next year. The larger tablet is likely to have a 12.9-inch display screen, according to the Wall Street Journal

"The top priority for the supply chain is to meet the overwhelming demand for the larger screen iPhones. The output of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus remains unsatisfactory," a source said. "It would be challenging for display makers to split resources and spend a few months to ramp up production for a new larger screen iPad now."

Apple is overwhelmed with the high demand of the new iPhones which has sold more than 10 million units in its first week in 10 countries. The company forecasted a higher demand once the gadgets goes on sale in China in Oct. 17.

Foxconn Technology, a major assembler of Apple devices, is also struggling in increasing its workforce for the production of the new iPhones. The Taiwanese manufacturer has employed 200,000 workers just for iPhones alone.

"Everyone is busy with the new iPhones, Foxconn's bread and butter. Chairman [Terry Gou] has also gone to the Zhengzhou site to monitor the production closely," a Foxconn official told the Wall Street Journal.

Apple has sent out invites for the Oct. 16 product launch event on its Cupertino, Calif., campus. Though the company has not yet given out any details, but the press anticipates that the company will unveil new iPads and Mac computers during the event.

Apple refused to comment on the topic.
