Over 2,500 people crowded an Australian Apple Store this morning, where the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus were being sold for the first time. Among the first buyers of the new device was a man who already dropped it on live TV and another man who traveled across the world to pick it up.

Jack Cooksey bought his phone from a store in Perth, Australia and was immediately interviewed by 9 News after being the first to emerge through the glass doors with the new gadget.

Cooksey unboxed his new iPhone 6 on camera for 9 News and the phone took a dive for the concrete, landing on the ground.

"I saw it hit the floor, and I was like 'oh, no, no, no, no,'" Cooksey tells 9NEWS.

Luckily the plastic was still on the phone, so there are still no scratches on Cooksey's new device.

Dave Rahimi, from California, who runs a phone blog and YouTube channel, both called PhoneBuff, was also among the first people to buy a new iPhone from the Australia store.

Rahimi preordered an iPhone 6 online from his America home before traveling halfway around the world to Australia just to pick it up, reports Cult of Mac.

"It feels awesome, being one of the first to get a device that so many people, including myself, have been looking forward to," he tells Cult of Mac. "I love mobile technology and being able to get probably the most sought after phone first is amazing."
