Channing Tatum talks about his favorite superhero Gambit in the latest issue of GQ.

Tatum recently landed the role in "X-Men" franchise, according tot Total Film.  However, Tatum's interview with GQ came before "X-Men" producer Lauren Shuler Donne confirmed the news.

"[Gambit was] the only superhero I really followed.... He was the most real to me: smoking, drinking, women-loving, thief. He just looked cool to me. I've always loved him. And obviously he's Cajun," Tatum told GQ.

Donne dished the Gambit casting news during an interview with Total Film.  She explained why the "Magic Mike" actor is the best fit for the role of the New Orleans-born thief.

"He's a rogue, Channing," Donne explained. "He's a rascal just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action we all know that. He's got a really good heart...I think he'll be great for Gambit."

However, Donne didn't confirm if Tatum will star in a solo Gambit film or make his first appearance in the "X-Men" franchise in the upcoming "Apocalypse" film.  Done also gushed about Tatum during an interview with Empire back in January.

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum," Donner told Empire. "That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

Tatum first mentioned his interest in the Gambit role during a 2013 press conference promoting his film "White House Down."

"I would like to play Gambit. Gambit's my favourite. I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real," Tatum explained.

"No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, 'cause I actually like his Gambit, but I've always lived around Cajun people," the actor added. "Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He's a thief. He kind of rode the line."
