Huawei is stepping up its game in the smartphone arena with its new flagship Ascend P7 packed with high-end features, premium built and impressive camera.

Huawei, the third largest smartphone shipment company, is taking on bigger players such as Samsung and Apple with its latest flagship smartphone, the Ascend P7. The new smartphone is the latest in the company's wide range of lineups and is aiming to redefine all specs- design and camera to overall smartphone performance. The Ascend P7 was announced at an event in Paris, Wednesday, but the company did not reveal the U.S. availability while it confirmed the sale of the handset across Europe, Asia and the Middle East in May.

The Chinese smartphone maker has highlighted the extensive camera capabilities built into the Ascend P7. Huawei is introducing a new concept of "groufie," which the phone maker described as a group selfie and the Ascend P7 will be a master at the art. The latest high-end smartphone is packed with a powerful 8-megapixel front-facing camera that comes with a panoramic function for selfie shooting. The company has invested deeply in the camera technology and the design for the Ascend P7.

"Huawei Ascend P7 was inspired by the natural curves of a water droplet which instills the phone with a sense of natural purity, and also gives users a more comfortable grip," Joon Suh Kim, Mobile Device Vice President of Consumer Experience Design Center at Huawei Consumer BG, said in a press release published by PR Newswire, Thursday. "It took us months of extensive design refinements to achieve this excellent balance of form and function."

The Ascend P7 features a full HD 5-inch display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 445ppi. The impressive camera is likely to attract several photo enthusiasts, as the smartphone is packed with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. The front-camera, which is the main attraction of the phone, can record videos at 1080p resolution. New camera functions such as "Voice Photo" allows users to record a 10-second voice clip with still photos. While the new features are a welcome addition to Huawei's flagship, its biggest rival Samsung has already integrated most of its new camera features in its Galaxy S4 and the latest Galaxy S5 that has even more to offer.

Other technical specifications of the Ascend P7 include a quad-core processor clocking speeds at 1.8GHz, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat and 16GB internal storage that can be expanded using microSD cards. It sports a 2500mAh battery and supports 4G LTE for faster broadband speeds. Looks wise, the Ascend P7 is a winner with its 6.5 millimeter thickness and 124 gram weight compared to Samsung's 8.1 millimeters thick Galaxy S5 that weighs 145 grams.

The company is hoping to sell 10 million units of Ascend P7 when it becomes available in May, ComputerWorld reports. The price of the Ascend P7 on launch is €449 (US$625) without contract and will be available in three colors, white, black and pink.
