Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia's Defense Minister who has been accused of abusing human rights, will be the southeast Asian country's next President.

The 72-year-old politician and former army general was announced the official winner of the February presidential election Wednesday, alongside his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, according to the Associated Press.

Subianto will be inaugurated in October, after securing 58.6% of the votes in a race against former Jakarta Gov. Anies Baswedan and former Central Java Gov. Ganjar Pranow, who received 24.9% and 16.5% of the votes, respectively, the AP reported, citing the General Election Commission.

Subianto's rivals have not yet conceded and vowed to challenge the results.

Baswedan and Pranowo have both accused Subianto of fraud over his decision to run alongside Raka, who is the eldest son of outgoing, two-term President Joko Widodo.

"Layered supervision like this would eliminate possible fraud," Widodo said, addressing the accusations, according to the AP. "Don't scream fraud. We have mechanisms to solve the fraud. If you have evidence, take it to the Election Supervisory Agency. If you have evidence, challenge it to the Constitutional Court."

During his time in the military, Subianto was accused of kidnapping and torturing activists, however, he continued to deny the serious allegations throughout his campaign, despite the convictions of some of his soldiers.

"The elections are over," the president-elect said during his victory speech, the AP reported. "We call on all Indonesian people to look to the future together. We must unite and join hands because our challenges as a nation are very big.

This was Subianto's third time running for president. He previously lost to Widodo, twice.
