When the "I Am Legend" movie was released in December 2007, it broke many hearts. First, many were saddened after Dr. Robert Neville's (Will Smith) dog, Samantha, died after getting attacked by some zombie canines.

After that, tears fell after the movie ended with Dr. Neville dying just to let two strangers survive the attack of fast-running zombies.

However, after a few days, fans saw a leaked alternate ending showing Dr. Neville surviving the explosion. Viewers waited for almost 15 years for the alternate ending's confirmation.

Finally, Will Smith decided to break his silence and announced that his character would indeed return to the new movie, "I Am Legend 2."

According to Business Insider's latest report, Will Smith confirmed the arrival of the "I Am Legend 2." However, he said that he wasn't interested in returning.

But, experts said that the idea of Michael B. Jordan co-starring in a mystery role could have inspired Will Smith to reprise his role as Dr. Robert Neville.

In February, the movie's writer and producer, Akiva Goldsman, confirmed that the sequel will follow an alternate ending instead of the one fans saw in theaters.

This December, Will Smith gave an update to the new film after appearing at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.

"I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. The script just came in... I'm probably giving away too much information," said the Oscar-winning Hollywood actor via CBR.

"We're going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived. I can't tell you any more but Michael B. Jordan is in [it] and we're doing it," he added.

In the original ending, Neville, together with Anna and Ethan (the two strangers who saved him from a hoard of zombies), went inside his laboratory as they ran from Darkseekers.

To their surprise, they discovered that the zombie woman Dr. Robert had held hostage was finally cured, thanks to his special blood. He prepared a vial of his blood and gave it to Anna.

He asked Anna and Ethan to go hide inside a coal shute, which is located at the back of his lab. After that, he activated a grenade and ran towards Darkseekers to save the two strangers.

At the end of the film, Anna and Ethan can be seen going to a fortified area where people are kept safe from Darkseekers, but Dr. Robert Neville is nowhere to be seen, proving that he died.

This original ending is quite different from the alternate ending. In the alternate ending, Neville is able to make peace with the Darkseekers by giving them the female zombie he had been experimenting on.

He decided to do this after understanding that these zombies only attacked him because they saw Neville as a "monster" that they needed to protect themselves from.

After his conflict with Darkseekers, Dr. Robert is seen leaving New York City, together with Ethan and Anna, to find other human survivors.
