According to 9To5Mac's latest report, Apple is already investigating the privacy bug in its newest iOS 17. Two self-proclaimed iOS developers first spotted this software issue. Via their official X account, Mysk, the researchers said that the iOS 17 automatically re-activates Significant Locations and iPhone Analytics settings even if users turn them off.

"If you have disabled significant locations as well as adding your location information to your iPhone analytics before upgrading to iOS 17, iOS 17 will turn the options," explained two iOS developers.

They warned users that the iOS 17 reset privacy settings bug could allow unauthorized parties to abuse their sensitive information since they are being turned off without their consent. Many iPhone consumers shared their experiences in the comment section, confirming that their Significant Locations and iPhone Analytics settings were activated after updating to iOS 17.

As of writing, Apple hasn't confirmed if it has already found a solution to the latest iOS 17 reset privacy settings. While the tech firm investigated the problem, the two iOS developers shared a temporary fix. But you must remember that their method may not work in all cases.

They suggest manually turning off the mentioned privacy settings after updating to the new iOS 17. You can do this by following this system route: Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Deactivate iPhone Analytics and Significant Locations.

Long-time Apple users know newly released iOS versions usually have numerous bugs and other issues. But, it is still important to be updated about these latest software problems and what Apple is doing to fix them.

Aside from the reset privacy settings problem, GizChina reported that the iOS 17 also leads to shorter battery capacity, especially in older iPhone models.

These include the following:

  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 8

Since the battery drain issue is quite serious, tech experts suggest older iPhone model owners retain their iOS 16.7 version until the newest version is stabilized.
